This fife flute is quieter than the parade fifes which once gave commands over the din of battle. It is more aimed towards practice and session playing. It comes with directions.
Hold fife sideways to the right and blow across the mouthpiece to get notes. Simple fingerings get notes of the scale (diatonic mode --do-re-mi..) in the key of Bb, and cross-fingerings get notes in between. Notes in the upper register (next scale up) requires a bit more practice.
The 'carved contour' mouthpiece makes blowing easier, especially for beginners.
