The Pine fife is vibrant, full timbred, and strong for its light weight. Pine vibrates along with the notes formed inside it, much more so than hardwoods. I have posted two mp3s played on Pine G Fife. Shiul a Run is an Irish love song. Diatonic scale is two octaves in key of G. G Fife is also good for the key of C.
The Low G fife plays easier than small fifes, as my calloused fingers seal the note holes better. Playing has led to slight carving improvements inside the mouthpiece and some of the note holes, keeping external symmetry, and lessening tonal differences in trasitional notes from low to high octaves.
I have kept the carved contoured mouthpiece. It smooths airflow over the trailing edge more easily than the circular arc, for quicker note attack. One expert told me the contour made it harder for him to find the 'sweet spot.' But the contour definitely helps players to find a note. My sympathy is with them, as is my goal to make playing more easy and enjoyable.
